Knürr Technical Furniture and Rudolf Medical GmbH cooperate to develop new Equipment Trolley for Minimal-Invasive Surgery

Knürr Technical Furniture recently produced a customized Equipment Trolley solution for Rudolf Medical GmbH & Co. KG, a nationally and internationally active manufacturer and sales specialist in medical technology. In the future KTF will provide a Mobile Equipment Trolley that is harmonized with the requirements and design of the “Monolith” equipment series. The system will set new standards in OP rooms because of its extreme user-friendliness.

“The Equipment Trolley will be used for installing and transporting endoscopy instruments and equipment for the Minimal-Invasive Surgery (MIS) area,” explains Henning Baldauf, Product Manager at Rudolf Medical, and adds: “Our declared goal was to offer a product that is really oriented towards the customer’s special requirements. The idea and its implementation are therefore based on feedback from the respective users.” The mobile trolley developed by Knürr Technical Furniture is largely based on the comprehensive module building blocks of the company’s mobility experts, and features especially functional factors. The experts were particularly skilful in implementing the design that Rudolf Medical was asking for. The finished prototype was already presented to the users over the last few weeks. “I mean, the reactions were positive all round,” says Henning Baldauf. “The Equipment Trolley instantly impressed the test people in the OP rooms.” Unlike conventional trolleys, the new model has high recognition value and numerous functions, which provide the user with even more benefits in performing their work. The individual of positioning in the OP room concept provides totally new handling options. While other equipment trolleys in the OP are only positioned from the front and therefore have to be re-positioned during an operation for sterility and hygiene reasons, the model developed jointly by Knürr and Rudolf Medical enables front and rear use (sterile and non-sterile area). The Trolley features a handle at the rear for this purpose, and the back castors rotate, which also simplifies and optimizes the application. So that smooth workflows are guaranteed with OP work, for example, the trolley also has a keyboard flap on the rear so that it can be easily reached by the specialists during the operation. The Equipment Trolley also complies with all applicable medical standards and is TÜV-approved.

In the preliminary stage a lengthy search was made for a suitable company that was prepared to implement the project. “As we know our customers’ requirements and application profile extremely well, we wanted a partner that could realize our ideas as precisely as possible, and who also has all the necessary expertise,” says Mr. Baldauf. Various providers were approached with an RfQ, but most of them couldn’t or didn’t want to meet the prescribed specifications. Of course this was totally the opposite with Knürr Technical Furniture, where close cooperation with the customer is a very conscious center of focus. As, in addition to know-how and expertise, the price-performance ratio was also spot on, KTF ultimately also got the order to develop this exclusive Mobile Equipment Trolley variant. “At the end of the day you could say that the competencies of the two companies simply delivered an absolutely exceptional result. We were able to provide the knowledge for the application, and Knürr delivered the know-how for development and design,” sums up an extremely satisfied Rudolf Medical boss. The Mobile Equipment Trolley will be presented to the general public for the first time at MEDICA 2009, the biggest medical sector trade fair in the world in Düsseldorf.
